The Switch 2 has a pretty handy battery saving feature that stops the Switch 2 from charging at 90%.

My phone has that mode. I disabled it because it only charges to 80% and the phone chews through the battery too fast .

Instead I enable the low power draw state.

Borderlands 4 creators voice is up on YouTube for Switch 2.

https://youtu.be/C6kiYmQrr9U?si=AfS7yhh5SQEwJxkB

"Nintendo Switch 2 has been a joy to work with it's very powerful it's an incredible machine in a very tight form factor and we love being on the bleeding edge with our graphics and the experience that we're creating and the Nintendo Switch 2 makes all that possible we don't feel like we're fighting the system we feel like the system's enabling us and empowering us to make the best version of Borderlands 4 we can"

They aren't porting it later it's being built alongside other versions. They say it's fun to develop for and that Switch 2 is very powerful.

Interestingly it seems 60fps. The Switch 1 version of Borderlands 3 could go as high as 45 fps,  but it was unlocked so seemed jittery.

If you haven't been keeping up with Switch 2 news you may have missed this excellent Creators Voice videos they've been releasing each week since the Direct.

They are usually around 5 minute videos with interviews mixed with new Switch 2 game footage.

I've posted them all here:

So I'm playing Ultros, and I was kind of confused why I hadn't heard much about it. When the screenshots got released for this last year everyone was going on and on about how bizarre and colorful and trippy the art style of the game was. And it is undeniable that nothing has ever looked like this game before. It is very cool in that aspect. But as I play it, I kind of get why no one else really got that into it... it's a lot of bad ideas and one small game.

Basically someone got the idea of making a metroidvania game, but also adding a roguelike feature to it. When you hit certain achievements, you start over and lose all of your abilities that you've gained. Then with a minimal story that starts off with the main character who doesn't talk and doesn't know what they're doing. You just wander around and let the story expand. And even as the story unravels, it doesn't exactly clear stuff up. There's something about a Time loop. One character seems to be aware of it, and the two others that you meet are not.

Long story short, this is kind of like Metroid, but you didn't get the instruction manual to tell you what the story is, and every time you finish a boss fight you lose all your equipment and have to go gather it again before going to the next area.

Unfortunately, Nintendo's CRT filters are terrible.

Rumor: Switch 2’s Manufacturing Cost Revealed To Be Dangerously Close To Its Retail Price

May 13, 2025

by Ryan Parreno

Nintendo’s choice to make more powerful hardware came with a literal cost.

There’s been a bit of speculation about the Switch 2’s price. It’s far higher than Nintendo consoles have been for around two decades, and a lot of consumers may be right to complain that they’re being priced out. But why did Nintendo go this route? We may have finally gained insight around this.

Shortly after the Switch 2 Direct, Toyo Securities’ Hideki Yasuda shared his belief that the Switch 2 is already a loss leader. Toyo’s estimate was that the console’s ‘bill of materials’ was around $ 400. Subsequently, Nintendo Prime shared a rumor from retailer Double Jump Games that the Switch 2 was only making $ 4 per unit. In other words, Double Jump Games’ retailer data indicated that Nintendo wasn’t making a profit on the console at all.

MST Financial analyst David Gibson spoke to Financial Times, who made a stunning claim. He stated that the Vietnam export data for the Switch 2 unit price is $ 338. This is the figure that Nintendo’s partners provide to Vietnam and other countries for the purpose of determining custom duties.

By necessity, the retail price of any product would have to be higher than the cost of manufacturing. And no, this is even before companies decide on a profit margin. The price has to factor in shipping costs, which include not only the cost of dealing with shipping and transport companies, but the different tariffs and duties in each state.

While Gibson’s claim is lower than Toyo Securities’ estimate, the gap isn’t that big. It’s clear that the Switch 2 takes significantly more to make, down to the costs of the console’s more powerful components. It seems incredibly unreasonable to expect that Nintendo would have sold the console at $ 400, as there’s a huge chance that that price would not have been enough to even just cover shipping and transportation costs.

Ultimately, this is a situation where Nintendo made a decision that they knew would not please everyone. In between keeping their prices low and making a more powerful console, they went with the latter. And there could have been an alternate Switch 2, that would have probably been called a Switch Pro, with less powerful hardware than what’s in the Switch 2 now. It would have been designed to stay below the $ 400 mark, and would likely have not been powerful enough to run games like Cyberpunk 2077.

But we’re in a new era of Nintendo, where it seems the most important visible factor isn’t president Shuntaro Furukawa, but their hardware partner, Nvidia. We’ll find out in time how much Nvidia can push their hardware to make Nintendo and their customers happy (and along the way, show something to Sony and Microsoft who went with AMD).

This is such a weird place to be cause game fan me loves the return of good graphics Nintendo. Growing up they were always cutting edge and these last decades have been pretty sad in that regard. But business side me doesnt see this making much sense. It's like they saw the steam deck, see cell phones and think, ehhh people pay for high end products. But those people buying that arent the same group that get switch. They have us hardcore that buy whatever, but the switch is made up of families with kids and when you go up in price and hit a psychological barrier they dont need to upgrade for their kids when they are probably playing more on a pad or phone anyway.

I hope its a huge success and Nintendo at least tries to make more premium products but I feel the opposite will happen.

How many Switch consoles can be attached to a family plan? I was thinking of adding my nephew but didn't want it to be an issue when the Switch 2 arrives.

Edit: I see the consoles are unlimited. So any of yall want to be a cousin?

Ill look into it, not sure how much a benefit there is if sharing has to be done close to each other. But I love sharing.

It’s been all Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 for me this weekend. Finally into Act 3 of the game now and am doing as much side stuff before beating it. Also watched WWE Backlash. Was a good show.

This game is a masterpiece. I too made it to act 3 which is just "FUCK YOU DIE!!!" nearly every optional location lol. I havent seen a game do a difficulty power creep as well as this game. You need to learn to maximize builds and the skill system to do the high level stuff and its not just one or two special bosses, its enter optional areas of super bosses and enemies. All optional too. Its brilliant.

This weekend I managed to get a 5080 for $1200... sigh. But I put that baby into my PC, the last piece of the puzzle I have been waiting for and I have a PS6 now. This is absurd graphics, I can't believe the level of detail and smoothness I am getting. I was playing Exp 33 with vasceline on the screen, and at 40 fps which I thought was great. Now everything MAX, all RT crazy shit on and max, 4k, 60fps with no drops. The game looks like a went up a gen, cause I guess I did. I tried Cyberpunk which I played before even the PC I had now, I played that at like 25fps on shit mode. I turned it all on, path tracing, ray tracing, all the tracings! Whatever magic shit they have I put on... its WILD. It becomes semi photorealistic at times and I get like 45fps with everything maxed. I can tweek a thing or two to get it to 60. This card is a beast. I now understand all these people wanting RT on everything, its nice lol.

I also started Doom, I get 90fps with everything super max so great performance. I only played 4 levels but I am not enjoying as much as I hoped. I am one of the Eternal lovers, there are those that hated the direction Eternal went with maybe they like what they did her, to me its a huge step back at least early in the game. Its too much just parrying and shield bashing into punch combos. Its a ton of punching things... in Doom. Ehh.

EA Pushes Full Return to Office

I read an interesting article today by a HR guy who works for a tech firm in regards to working from home. In one part he mentioned that he monitors other tech companies' LinkedIn pages and waits for them to announce they are "returning to the office." Then immediately his company starts sending out offer letters to their best engineers and programmers. It been incredibly successful for them, and they recently nabbed 12 engineers from one competitor.

Long story short, returning to the office is a great way to lose talent.

I'm kind of with you on that. I'd love for Nintendo to focus on power like the SNES days but I'm afraid they won't in the future.

Amazing!  I'm near retirement and am wondering if I'd like to work from home and teach online.

It certainly is. Just finished the main story and wow, fantastic stuff. The freedom they give you to tune your characters and party is incredible. Still have some optional things to do and make a different ending choice. Easily my GotY so far.

I'm glad you got some value from it. I picked up a physical copy of it for around $25, thinking I had found a great sale. But really that's all it demands in the market at the moment. If you find it for a price in the single digits, it might be worth picking up. I can't deny that artistically the game does have a lot going for it.

I did think the environments in The Dark Ages look very flat and wide. Theres more enemies but what's happened to level design when everything is flat and open?

I hope they stay handheld. Since 2012 I've had the option of playing off screen or easily switching tvs when docked.

Going back to a one tv setup will feel incredibly limiting to my play style.

It will drop in price digitally. I will wait as long as a statue on Easter Island.
