Yep, free mode is great for finding new costumes.

I am blind. I never saw the free roam option until you mentioned it. I googled to see how to unluck free roam, and found it was always unlocked. LOL

I tried some Switch 1 upgraded games: Mario Odyessey, Mario Wonder and Zelda BOTW. All three game's resolution and color boosts are nice, but the frame rate improvement for BOTW is the most impressive; smooth a silk.

EDIT: I understand now why you disabled HDR, GG. I wasn't aware of Switch 1 titles having forced HDR, even with the "compatible sofware only" option on. DF explained it. I was wondering why the colors looked less vibrant on Switch 1 games. BOTW looks much better with HDR off.

The demo just has you running around a mine digging and smashing stuff; I got bored after 10 minutes. I'll try it again.

I spent far too much time doing this.

But there's more to the game. You have to dig to find hidden bananas, but the main game has a lot more to do. The digging is presented as the main thing in the game, but you don't have to mindlessly do it.

I didn't realise the forced HDR. So you mean the updated patched switch 1 games have forced HDR and looks worse?

I think HDR works well but only if you can tweak it in a games options. Every game seems to need some HDR tweaking and doing it blindly from the system menu doesn't work well.

I tried really hard but in the end it's too much hassle to manage.

Yeah, according to DF, most upgraded switch 1 games have forced HDR, but Nintendo didn't or couldn't change the tone mapping to match The higher range of colors, so the colors look  washed out. Apparently, super Mario Bros U and splatoon 3 don't do this; they only display properly in SDR mode when you have the "only compatible software" option on.

I've never messed with any HDR settings on my games. Never thought to do it.

Weird, I didn't see any problem with Mario Odyssey.

Cyberpunk 2077 allows you to make a very simple change to HDR. There are actually 4 settings to change but only 1 is needed. Its the slider where you choose between a darker more colourful look or brighter washed out one.

And you can immediately see the result and go back and change it. Other games rely on the system level setting and different games behave differently with it. I gave up after a while.

Octopath Traveler 0
Metroid Prime 4
Assassin's Creed Shadows

All release this week on Switch 2.

That's crazy. I'm getting MP4 immediately, Assassin's Creed for Christmas.

Octopath can wait for a price drop, because RE7, RE8 and RE9 are out end of January.

To be fair, I doubt most people would notice it or care. I noticed it because I'm a nut, lol.

I won't be getting any of those immediately.

I'm playing The Plucky Squire and being happy that it's finally a game I can bother to keep playing.  Maybe its jolly colourful disposition has something to do with it.

Also, the kids will probably get Pokémon Legends Z-A and the new Hyrule warriors for Saint Nikolas at the end of the week and while I have no interest in playing those games, that's enough new full-priced physical games for one week.

Buy the games you want and force them to play them.

You're doing it wrong.

Metroid Prime 4 and Octopath Traveler 0 are the two games I’ll be picking up next week. Can’t wait.

This weekend I’ve been hooked on BallXPit. Very neat game and quite addictive. Kind of like a Breakout style of game with some base building. Also watched WWE Survivor Series: War Games. Fun show.

Ace Prosecutor 2 for me.

Anyone else get really tired playing games where you have to read a lot? I find myself falling asleep.

I've been playing The Plucky Squire.  For a game about breaking the 4th wall, there's a neat breaking of even more walls at some point through the game.  Not sure how far along I am in the game.  It feels like it could be nearing the end, but I think I've only been to about 60-75% of the map so far?

My weekend consisted of 90% MK World and 10% trying out Switch 1 upgraded games.

For some unknown reason, when I tried NSMB U Deluxe, I got hooked and played through the first two words on a new save yesterday. Think I'll do a full playthrough this month; it been awhile.

The New SMB series got a bad rap. I think. They were good games. They didn't hold up to the 8 and 16-bit Mario games, but they're still better than most platformers.

I enjoyed all of them. I hope they remaster the NSMB Wii, DS, and 3DS games someday.
