You guys pondering any vacations this year?

I'm probably heading back to Penang. Taking the nephew to Asia for the first time.

I still want to go to Japan, I still need to see Europe. But my GF says she is not to keen on traveling around the world in our current state, don't blame her. So nothing planned yet.

Hmmm.  Makes me wonder how well some of the Switch's impossible ports would play on Switch2.  I bought Doom 2016 on Switch but stopped playing because it became such a blur.  Perhaps the Switch2 would resolve the heavy dynamic resolution scaling.

Think I tried both Switch Dooms.

Doom 1 didn't seem to drop resolution. Doom Eternal looked about the same to me.

It looked weird at first till I set the gamma right. I have Mclassic too so I can make both look better.

Been put off Hades because of Bastion. I still haven't played the next game they made, which I own. The futuristic one.

America's state or personal reasons?

Japan seems to be getting cheaper.

One thing I just discovered after 20 years of travel, usually we'd see a catalogue for vacations and prices or call a travel agent and they would ask when we wanted to go and then give us prices.

Now I've been using aggregate prices sites like Booking, Kayak, Expedia.

And I searched one day and got an expensive prices, then checked again for a different date and the same holiday, same hotel was literally 50% of the price. I tried to recreate the same conditions and couldn't get the cheap price back.

Then I used google AI to ask "what month is cheapest to travel to (destination)

When I input the month into travel search aggregate sites, I got that 50% off price. When you have multiple people it amounts to literal thousands off.

Meta shuts down Armature Studio, Sanzaru Games and Twisted Pixel
14.01.26 - Meta is restructuring its VR business and closing three studios belonging to the group. Armature Studio, Sanzaru Games and Twisted Pixel are affected.

As the business service Bloomberg writes, Meta wants to cut more than 1,000 jobs in the Reality Labs division. The department is responsible for headsets and related software.

Armature Studio had developed the VR version of Resident Evil 4 before the acquisition, but did not release any other games after that. Sanzaru Games was responsible for Asgard's Wrath and Asgard's Wrath 2, but also worked on well-known series such as Sly Cooper and Sonic Boom in the past.

Twisted Pixel most recently developed Marvel's Deadpool VR and previously made a name for itself with games for the Xbox 360. Meta wants to shift investments from the metaverse to wearables, according to a statement. The aim is to direct freed-up funds into the growth of this area.

The Elder Scrolls VI: Early announcement should prevent fan trouble
01/13/26 - Bethesda has announced The Elder Scrolls VI much earlier than originally planned. This is what eSportsInsider writes. Former employees report that this step was primarily intended to manage the expectations of the fans and avoid resentment.

At the same time, former lead artist Nate Purkeypile explained that the internal pressure is based less on fixed release dates and more on securing a high-quality result. The long period of time since Skyrim further increases the requirements: According to his statements, Bethesda works with its own schedule, as the studio's projects differ significantly from other games in the market in terms of structure and content.

It got too slow and repetitive. The narrator got annoying. I don't hate it but I had my fill.

I'm just happy to not see pixelated blacks. The Switch 2's colors look a little too warm. I haven't had a chance to play around with the settings and may not get to until Monday because we are going on a trip.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade gets "Streamlined Progression"

01/15/26 - Square Enix will release the "Streamlined Progression" feature for the role-playing game Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, PC) via patch on 01/22/26 for PlayStation 5 and PC. On this day, the game will also be released for Xbox Series and Switch 2, which already have the feature.

"Streamlined Progression" is aimed at players who want to focus on the plot. It allows settings that keep health and magic points permanently at the maximum value, set the damage dealt at 9,999 points and equip the inventory with all items in maximum quantities, with a few exceptions.

The options can be individually activated or deactivated and adjusted at any time via the menu. With this innovation, Square Enix wants to take into account different play styles and make it easier to access the story.

Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties with SlashOut and 12 Game Gear Classics

1/15/26 - Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties (PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, PS4, PC) from Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio will feature the arcade classic SlashOut (2000) and 12 Game Gear classics from Namco. This is reported by PushSquare.

Slashout shifts the fighting game structure known from Spikeout into a fantasy realm characterized by magical gems. The arcade game was released in 2000 for Sega's NAOMI system and offers a cooperative action/adventure for up to four players.

In sprawling arenas, they'll encounter more than forty species of monsters, while branching scenarios and multiple storylines make for repeatable playthroughs. The four selectable characters differ significantly: Slash uses balanced stats and fire-charged attacks, Luna relies on speed and holy energies, Axel relies on raw power and earthy shockwaves, and Kamui combines high speed with wind-based special techniques. These skills shape the rhythm of the fights and give each game its own dynamic.

12 Game Gear games are:

Columns

Fantasy Zone Gear

Galaga '91

G-LOC

Mappy

Pac-Man

Puyo Puyo

Sonic Chaos

Sonic Drift

Streets of Rage

The GG Shinobi

Woody Pop

I know it sounds weird but I have a Quantum Dot Samsung LCD and its colours are as vibrant as the OLED. It's does have a noticeable back light so this messed me up. My experience with OLEDs is that when the screen is black it literally emits no light and you're in pitch darkness. The QD tv somehow manages the same effect, I think it must just turn off the back light.

Extreme story mode? Cheaper to just watch a full playthrough on YouTube.
