I bought a new smartphone yesterday, as the GPS sensor of my older one went bust.  I was very happy with that one though, an LG model that had a lot of nifty features without ever wanting to swamp you in proprietery apps.

Since LG doesn't make smartphones anymore, I bought a Motorola G73.  So far, I'm hating it.  My wife always jokes how I'd be most happy if I could just buy the same pair of trowsers over and over again till I die, but man do I hate wrestling with android to get it to do what I want it to do.  It also doesn't help that the settings seem to be much less granular than on my LG.  When chosing where to store photo's from the camera, I can select 'phone' or 'SD card'.  I want to be able to chose exactly where on the SD card, why not give me that option?  When I want to set the resolution of the camera, all it provides me with is 'standard' or 'high' resolution.  It's a 50MP camera, a few more options that actually list the resolution couldn't have been that hard to include?  The picture folder doesn't show all images on the front page, even randomly showing some while ignoring others that are in the same folder.  The photo app has this eternally spinning loading bar at the top, presumably because no, I don't want to backup my photo's to Google Drive.  Nearly every app wants to use my google account, even if they're not from the Google ecosystem.

There's this function now where you can basically have the phone copy all the settings and preferences from your old andoid.  That's pretty cool, saved me a lot of time placing all the apps where I want them.  But only half of the buttons I made seem to work.

I use Blackberry Hub to use my outlook contacts on android.  For some reason, this phone won't take them.  It'll show they're synced, but they don't show up.  In the end I gave up and just copied all my contacts to Google.  At least the agenda synced, but for some reason it won't allow me to change the different agenda colours from the ugly ones it picked itself.

I could keep listing stuff for another 9 paragraphs...  I feel like Harrison Ford in the Blade Runner sequel.  This old hermit who cut himself off from all the comfors/trappings of modern day digital life.  I just can't stand it when big companies decide how I should use the hardware I bought and which apps I can and can not use.

That is the same place I find myself. I'd rather save my shelves for books or other things, and I actually think I get more satisfaction scrolling through a digital library then looking through a real one.

But at the same time, I've had a digital purchases effectively taken from me by closed marketplaces or by publishers who make you jump through a ridiculous number of hoops just to access your library. Not a fan of that at all.

The price benefit is the main reason I buy digital.

File sizes too. I still buy big games physically, your Zeldas for instance. But the eshop has so many constant sales, its just so cheap to pick up stacks of games for a few or couple of dollars here and there. And you can store dozens upon dozens on 1 micro sd card. Plus I don't have to pay more for physical and wait for it to be delivered.

The reason I'm picking up more physical recently is because I'm running out of space, even though I have 1tb of space across 3 micro sds, plus the 60gb on the OLED. I mostly use the on board memory to move games around which is faster than redownloading.

What did you guys think of the Indiana Jones trailer?

I love the franchise and have a lot of fondness for the games. The first person stuff though seemed odd. He walks around surrounded by people with machine guns and just whips at them, which seems effective? But utterly ludicrous when taking down multiple foes in quick succession.

I feel like that old Cancelled 360 Indy would have been preferable.

First person Indiana Jones game is a little too weird for me. I may change my mind later, though

Kind of would have preferred a straight forward third person action Indiana Jones game but still really liked what they showed so I’m currently onboard the hype train for it.

I wonder if it'll have the Bethesda's awkward third-person camera toggle like Skyrim.

I'm glad we all seem to agree, first person Indy is weird. Now it's machinegun games so of course they make first person games, probably didn't want to change their engine. It's probably going to play like a slower Wolfenstien game. It could still be a good game but I much rather see the iconic hero than play as his fists.

So that's a pretty normal take right, well a bunch of people on era seemed to have gotten confused at so many people saying they wish it was third person. So the entire thread became a war between people just having preference and a group of people accusing those people of console wars, of hating all first person shooters. It's crazy.

Yeah, once you havbe to completely empty someons house it re-jiggers your judgement as to what physical assets are important.  There is no one in my real life who can apprecaite my collection other than me, so I don't get to enjoy it as a show piece, so at teh end of the day I'll hang onto what I really value and let someone else enjoy the rest.

A big part of having a great collection is showing it off to others that share the value.  Instead of reactions I used to get in the States of "OMG I can't bel;ive you have that!" Now it's "So do you still have all those game things?" (Meaning, "so have your grown out of your arrested development stage yet and become a real man?"). Even kids are not that into it, as when kids come over all they want to play is Roblox (which after I have to download patches and updates they are not impressed and have lost interest anyway).

So I finally built a new shelf and got all my games out of boxes, easily like 600 games or more. It's in a closet, that's where I put the shelf cause I don't feel like having it out, it doesn't look good and as you say no one cares. Part of me still loves it, I can actually play most of it as the consoles work. But I have so many of those same games digitally now, with better resolution, better versions, so why do I have them physically. I've been a physical copy guy my whole life and now I get mostly digital. Like robio said, going through a digital library is so nice, easier to see, better organized and if things are pre installed it's just a click of a button. Then there is the sad fact that all our physical stuff will stop working in time. So I'm selling stuff on eBay and making money, might as well.

Kind of funny, I'm surfing around the PlayStation store today. Looking for something to play for the next week or so. And noticed that Yakuza 3 - 6 are all only $5 a piece. Pretty great deal. And then I remember how pissed off I still am that lost judgment crashed on me. So those are no buys for a while longer for me.

This reminds me, I felt the same about Robocop Rogue City, but it seems to have turned out okay. That's a FPS which makes sense though. A first person whipping game seems odd.

Switch 2 Specs & Performance - As POWERFUL As PS4?! - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDiEVX1ZjXA

This is by Red gaming Tech. He's fairly low profile and mostly reports on different gpus and seems to have a few sources.

His past 3 videos on Switch 2 have differed quite a bit. The latest set of specs he posted yesterday are the lowest yet and therefore the most believable to me.

Sounds like it's going to be PS4 level (docked). Other rumours are saying it will PS4 pro range, or Xbox Series S range.

The RAM is 8gb, again its the lowest and so most probable than the 12 to 16gb we heard.

HDD 64gb lol, but SD cards I guess. What actually most bummed me out was that the screen is a 720p OLED? I mean it looks great with the switch OLED but 720p is obviously less detailed and more jaggy than games look docked. I was hoping for a 1080p screen minimum.

I really should sell my non-HD consoles and games. Even the PS3 is feeling too slow and clunky these days. Modern remasters/remakes are the way forward for me, I think. After playing RE2 Remake, I can't imagine I'd play the original again. It's hard to let go of the past, though. So many great memories.

This is one of the reasons I started buying video game art books. I think I get as much or more enjoyment just looking at pictures of old games, cover art and concept art more than I actually get from playing them these days.

Start with this one. It's the Art of Atari. Something like 300 pages of Atari 2600 cover art and write ups. Genuinely great book.

Nice! I remember seeing this one a long time ago but forgot about it. I ordered a copy.

I wish I had kept all of the gaming magazines I had in the 90s. I had most of the EGMs and Next Generation mags.
