The stage selection is a bit wearing at the moment.

It's not bad or anything but locking away two stages only for splatfests, is pointless. We should be able to play them everyday. Also, two of the maps are Splatoon 1 maps rejigged. Still worth playing and everything but why not add the maps that were added last and thus played the least from Splatoon 1?

AnchoV games, was awesome and so was Mahi Mahi.

Thankfully Salmon Run is awesome but again they lock you onto one map a day, sure it changes randomly which is great but it would be nice to switch between all 3 maps one after the other.

I finally fully worked out the system for tickets, chunks, snails, gear, food and drinks etc. Would have been nice to have a manual or decent explanation Nintendo indecision so I'm getting closer towards having my ideal gear combinations. It's been a lot of hard work. I think it's time for some new DLC maps.

I haven't played this in like 2 weeks.  Matter of fact, I've been sick and very busy with work and school starting again for the kids, I've barely played anything since the start of september.

So I'm getting close to my ideal equipment. It has taken far longer than one would hope, thanks to no explanation from Nintendo.

Here is what I understand.

Playing Salmon Run gets you tickets. You can use these tickets at the lobster van for a drink which increases your chance of receiving your chosen secondary ability. Each drink lasts 20 matches.

Playing Salmon run also gets you gear, only one piece of new gear a month? But if you get duplicates you can exchange them for ability chunks and cash.

So Salmon run can nab you tickets, cash and ability chunks. Whereas turf wars only gets you cash - but salmon run doesn't level up your gear.

You can pay 20'000 to scrub equipment, and it is the same fee for scrubbing a 4 ability item as it is to scrub a 2 item one so it's best to fully level up your gear first in terms of slots (using sea snails from Splatfests)

So ability chunks.... say you have an item with an INK SAVER MAIN and you want 3 secondary abilities. For the first slot, it costs you 10 ability chunks. For the second slot, 20 ability chunks and for the third, 30 chunks. So in total one item will cost you 60 chunks. Think about that, for each item you scrub for instance you will nab 1, maybe 2 chunks of the same type.

So to fully get 3 pieces of custom gear it takes a fuckton of scrubbing and a shit-ton of cash.

Conclusion - the best way to get custom gear is to use multiple sea snails to roll your abilities and hope you get 2 of the same type on one piece of equipment. Then use ability chunks for the third and last slot. Or use drinks while leveling up to have a better chance of getting the kind of ability you want.

I myself have just blown all my cash to get chunks bit by bit and scrubbed items multiple times.

It feels like farming in an RPG. And it means I have to play without my ideal gear just to try for chunks.

Pro tip: scrub the splatfest tee.  It'll only set you back 2000 in cash. Even if yoy scrub after only unlocking obe ability, you're still a saving big.

Yeah I did that last splatfest several times.

Is it just me or does the Splatfest happen a lot less often than in Splatoon 1?

I got the sense that it was every week or couple of weeks in S1? Here you go weeks between them?

So why does my team take off and leave the whole area at the spawn point unpainted?  Wouldn't it be more important to cover that area first?

I always heqd out to the center first and cover the spaw  point area on my first respawn. Dominating the center area is key to success.

What he said. You save the area near spawn for when you die. Then you can use that area to build your special before re entering the fray.

Gee Gods they have destroyed my Kelp Dome camping spot. Now I have to set up on the complete other side of the map. Darn it!

When is that new canal map out?

Cool!  I emailed Nintendo and asked if they would eliminate some of those crappy camping spots.  Glad to know they listened.

We're talking Splatoon 1.

Not Splatoon 2 where every person on both teams can each get 6 kills on every turf wars match and still lose the match. A good match in Splatoon 1 was 5 kills, a better match was 8 and an exceptional match was 13.

I have killed 13 on Splatoon 2 but its more of a rarity with the stages and machine guns spam bias.

As I remember I destroyed your ass on Saltspray Rig with an Aerospray and Inkzooka. Ah.... good times.

Godamn, I cannot play this game in handheld mode with guns. Having the screen move when I try to aim is something insurmountable for me. I do in in Salmon run and it's fine there but for more demanding twitch turf wars, I have to use rollers in handheld mode.

And Godamn, they really screwed over the Carbon Roller, so badly that it's basically a POS now. They little run up period where you are slow, no decent long range weapon capable of kiling quickly. No decent short range sub capable of killing quickly (a slow meandering auto bomb you can see and hear coming a mile away). Without seekers you cannot ink out a path forward. Without burst bombs you have no mid-longer range weapons to mitigate mid-range machine guns who can just stand there shooting at you from afar.

And the damage done from swing attacks is like 30%, so you hardly ever splat anyone unless you are point blank. Then, of course you often just bounce into enemies you run over and they don't die, instead you do as you harmlessly bounce off them then are killed straight away.

The Splashdown move is annoying as shit recentely. I can stand a mile away and shoot directly where they land after the move with a Gatling and they are temporarily invunerable. The Hamster ball is equally annoying when I shoot it with a gatling it doesn't even push it back, let alone burst the bubble.

And the sting ray continues to be a giant POS. Sure you can kill people sometimes, but it's about the only special which leaves you completely vunerable for a long period of time. To the extent where you cannot use bombs when using it, and you cannot even run at a normal speed. You can ink swim away but that relies on the ground at your feet being your own ink. Using motion to aim it, fucks up the camera angles, so you have to rely on stick movement horizontally but of course your viewpoint is restricted and people just run up to you and kill you easily.

Getting close to my ideal gear.

I've been deciphering the Salmon run results in the few seconds that they appear as. I either end up killing the most enemies or surviving the most. I usually dont collect as many orbs as others. What I have noticed is that I am usually the last man standing, while others go for eggs and enemies and get themselves killed. From the results screens I up dying either half as much or anything up to 6 times less than others. So I'm the guy who has to revive everyone. My new thing is taking a picture of my dead teamates once we have completed all 3 waves, with me still being alive. Booyah.

Also using my custom gear I had some awesome results in turf wars lately. Scored 2804 in turf wars. In terms of kills, I got 10 kills with a Carbon roller and the same with a Splat roller. With an NZap I killed 14 in one match and up to 13 with the Gatling.

I'm digging the mp again as I need a new mp fix. Because I'm PUBG'd out, and Lawbreakers tanked because gamers, once again love eating shit, instead of playing good things, but this actively annoys me on the gear front. I can sort of semi pretend to live with the whole unlocking guns thing, and needing to play for a few hours to level up before I can play ranked n all that stuff (lame, but whatever), but the gear, and the rerolling, and the waiting for guy to import shirts for me, and then playing matches to see what i rolled, and turning abilities into point things that I can use the fuse said ability to another gear when I feel like it.

It's all busy work, often for stuff that doesn't really alter my playstyle, just gives me the statistical stuff I need to be at a more competent level in terms of base attributes against other players. I've never been fond of this stuff in CoD or Battlefield, but I'm even less fond of it here. It's a shame, because the actual moment to moment mechanics of Splatoon I dig a lot, and I don't mind everyone having their own loadout. More so the part where all progression stuff tied to the loadouts is made more long winded than I'd like.

I haven't played this in weeks.  I've hardly played anything, to be fair.  I hope this game will be able to pull me back in once I get some more free time on my hands.  ...  Perhaps I'll play some tonight, I've got a few hours to myself.  Then again, I do have that shiny new SNES mini sitting under my TV, begging to be played.  Hmmmm

As for Salmon Run, I agree that a lot of people are too focused on gathering eggs and getting killed in the process.  It gets better the higher your level, but every so often you'll get paired with 3 idiots who still think it's a free for all.

Worst thing is when people don't know to group up when the Glowflies or Grillers appear. You can stand there near the egg basket spamming OVER HERE repeatedly and teamates ignore it and get killed. One match I was the last man standing against glowflies and swum up a wall to wait the timer out.

You re-roll? I used to in Splat 1 because there were a lot of splatfests and a lot of spare sea snails going around. In 2 you need to use the tickets you get from Salmon run at the Crusty bucket and obviously wipe gear with secondary abilities you don't need. I like the system as it gave me something to aim for.
