What do you do? Have the second character drop the recipes for your first to pick up?

Yes. And for other items I can place them so visitors can't pick up items. For stuff that can't be placed outside I build fences around. Not only do you get an extra beach recipe each day, visiting the residents usually you get different recipes from the main character too.
Yeah I’ve had the odd online issue with this game occasionally as well. Sometimes I’ll get an error when trying to open my gates for people. It connects online and everything but sometimes it’ll just hang for a bit then give me an error at the actual gate opening part. It’ll eventually open after a couple tries though.
I've never had online issues except people are talking and it won't let me join.
I haven't played at all this week. Maybe I can open my gates tomorrow morning.
