Two interesting articles today.

Firstly the Paper Mario TTYD contender article. Interesting as they say its even bettwr than Bug Fables - Escape from Ever After is the game they're talking about.

Second article is David Jaffe mauling the 2D God of War game.

When I saw the trailer, even as a non fan I was like, why doesnt he look like Kratos? It's such an iconic look its weird that you play as this generic looking character.

Then it got me thinking about all these massive franchises having indie like 2D de-makes announced. Like the Rogue Prince of Persia, the 2D soul reaver, maybe even the new Castlevania game.

I know Castlevania was originally a 2D games but it kind of follows the trend of publishers trying to maybe steal some indie thunder and... maybe failing a bit?

Like David Jaffe said, GOW 2D has Blasphemous. Castlevania looks less like Castlevania than something like The Last Faith.

It worked with Ninja Gaiden and Shinobi though.

Yeah, that God of War: Son of Sparta game doesn’t look good to me either. I’ll pass on that.

Sons of Sparta looks like a dried dog turd. I get that not every game in a series needs to be a high budget AAA experience. But you can still put together a nice art style and some clever gameplay. This just looks like a mid-level indie title. Something that you check out with a PlayStation plus subscription, but nothing to pay for.

I dont have anything against the God of War game, but I would just want the main character at least to look recognisable. Maybe mid way through the game he changes? I have zero knowledge of GOW lore.

These big budget games having 2D games feels like they're trying to chase indie success, but it looks and feels contrived sometimes.

Then on the other hand, made with enough care and you get a new Shinobi Art of Vengeance.

The greatest of all franchises. I'll replay the OG at some point in honor.

The sony state of play was great, Konami is back!!! New Castlevania, new SH, MGS4 ported finally. Lots of great games shown. God of War remakes will be awesome, but dont care for the new 2D one. There are way too many better metroidvanias to play.

Almost done with the RE playthrough and only a week and a few days till RE9!!!

I tried Asphalt Unite Switch 2 build.

Didn't try on the tv, handheld it looked worse than on switch OLED. Desaturated colours. No visible signs of improvement. Resolution is supposed to be higher but I couldn't tell.

Meanwhile the already bloated menu and token options have been further convoluted, with additional currency.

There's a great game buried here under endless menus and shop options. I played so much of this game I can no longer stomach getting 1 or 2 cards for a vehicle drip fed to me over days and weeks.

It has taken Konami too long to port MGS4. I wonder if 5 is in the works?

Might not have been a particularly easy port given the nature of the PS3. MGS5 is available via backwards compatibility but I can see them perhaps doing a Switch 2 version in the future.

I'd try it but I'm not buying Nintendo's overpriced required screen accessory. PC VB emulators allow for flat screen play too; Nintendo shouldve allowed it too.

It comes with my online subscription, but I sure won't be spending $100 on a headset. Even the cheap, cardboard version is too much.

Anyone besides me actually own a virtual boy back in the day? I got mine at babbages brand new for $30 after Nintendo discontinued it. I picked up several games for $5 each brand new too. it was neat, but I didn't play it much; too uncomfortable to play at a table. Hard to believe it came out at $179 at launch and was $30 less than a year later.

I came across a used one at Blockbuster Video, around the time they were ending their "rent a console" program. It is as $25, but I was in full-on broke ass college student mode and had to choose between food and a Virtual Boy. I chose food.

Resident Evil: Requiem Playtime could be up to 40 hours

02/18/26 - Resident Evil: Requiem (PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, PC) could be much more extensive than some of its direct predecessors, according to a report by Insider Gaming.

Citing developer circles and recognized insiders, Insider Gaming expects a main playing time of between 10 and 16 hours. If you want to complete all the content, you should expect a total playing time of 30 to 40 hours. This would put the title above the scope of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village, but would lag behind Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 6. The information is based on source reports; an official confirmation of the exact playing time is still pending. Release: 27.02.26 (Europe)

Silent Hill: Townfall console exclusive for PS5

18.02.26 - Konami will release Silent Hill: Townfall (PS5, PC) exclusively for PlayStation 5. This information can be found on the official website.

Set in 1996 on the cold, isolated Scottish island of St. Amelia, Silent Hill: Townfall tells an independent story within the series. Simon Ordell returns there to put things in order and finds a seemingly abandoned city shrouded in fog.

Kojima Productions prefers Decima Engine over Unreal Engine 5

02/17/26 - Kojima Productions has been relying on Guerrilla Games' Decima engine for almost ten years and has decided against Unreal Engine 5. Chief Technology Officer Akio Sakamoto justifies this with specific strengths in rendering and analysis tools that provide extensive runtime data without external tools.

The engine is particularly suitable for large open-world projects and multidisciplinary teams. For Death Stranding 2: On the Beach (PS5, PC), the studio developed complex landscapes with around 25 million polygons and a stable frame rate. Three different geometry data with varying LOD levels enabled detailed sandstone formations.

The team optimized lighting and shading with additional occlusion maps, as GI and SSAO alone were not enough. Kojima Productions also expanded the particle system from the predecessor to display extensive fireworks effects. The studio makes adjustments to the engine itself and regularly shares them with Guerrilla at the code level.

TechPowerUp/ComputerBase] Blind Testing Shows Gamers Prefer NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 Over Native Resolution Rendering and AMD FSR 4

ComputerBase conducted a massive online blind test, allowing thousands of gamers to vote on their preferred game video output. The options included NVIDIA's latest Deep Learning Super Sampling 4.5, AMD's FSR Upscaling AI with FSR 4 on Radeon RX 9000 series GPUs, and native resolution rendering without AI upscaling. Interestingly, DLSS 4.5 received the highest percentage of votes, winning in every scenario. ComputerBase tested various games like Anno 117, ARC Raiders, Cyberpunk 2077, Horizon Forbidden West, Satisfactory, and The Last of Us Part II. Only in Cyberpunk 2077 did gamers almost equally prefer native resolution rendering, but DLSS 4.5 still came out on top with a slight edge

Skyrim Switch getting a 60FPS mode? Nice

I wish 2K would give Civ 6 a Switch 2 upgrade, especially a resolution boost to from 720p to 1080p portable.
