Not much gaming for me this weekend. Tried out some Shin Megami Tensei V on Friday. The little bit I played seemed pretty good. Played a bit of Halo: Infinite and Forza Horizon 5. Other then that Saturday and Sunday have mostly been spent helping move a bunch of my sister and her husband’s stuff to their new place. I’m too old for this shit. Sad

Some random synapse fired in my brain late last night, and I started playing Assassin's Creed Black Flag. I have not tried a game in the franchise since the terrible first game.

It was okay enough to stick with it for a bit more. However, I find the animus stuff a bit of a navel gaze and an unneeded distraction to the game.

I also played some UNO online on Switch, which is terrific.

Other than that short window of gaming I've been comatose, overwhelmed by the details and activities of life.

I failed to complete the adagio before the end of the month, but I have completed the rest of Fantasia in D Minor, so i'm still classing it as a win.

I also finished the only game I've been playing (while eating breakfast), Ken Follet's The Pillars of the Earth. After a slow start, it gets pretty good. Definitely recommend it to GG; it's a daedelic adventure game based on a book!

So is the Animal Crossing update enough to get you back to daily play?

The answer, for me is yes. If you remember City Folk aka Let's go to the city, Harvs Island is now a shopping mecca.

You can now much more easily get access to new items without waiting around forever for Redd to show up.

There are lots of new items, some in the shop, some in Nook shopping.

Nook miles has tons more stuff to buy to pretty up your town. Like a Tori gate, new fountains, streetlights, topiary etc.

Kappa Island tours feels a touch pointless at times but is still fun for the music.

Brewster now has a coffee shop set up.

The new first person camera mode is trippy and makes you appreciate the world more. Especially the museum.

Eventually, it will get repetitive, but for the moment this has been the one and only AC game I haven't sold after burning out.

How many hours have you put into AC?

I'd have to check. Well over a thousand. Probably twice that. Or more.

I played Crysis switch last night. After a good looking cutscene you land on a dark island. You can't see shit and the rocks have no decent reflective shades. And the texture quality is very low.

It's a rough first 15 mins as this is the period where I experiment with the motion controls too.

Sunlight eventually comes as the sun rises and it starts to look much better. Tons of foliage and a huge map all at a solid framerate, with motion controls.

Should be all great and seeing a fps like this played on the switch screen is sometimes remarkable.

The game itself I'm not sold on. It does what I hate the most with fps, enemies that can hit you from miles away when you cannot even see them. Unless their bullets defy the laws of physics there's no way their machine guns should reach me. Meanwhile I'm scouting ahead looking for the enemy that's barely visible.

So you wander about what looks to be an empty area only for some invisible douche to fire off a flare and call for backup. And at times when you have the cloak on they can still see you??

The controls are good, but like crysis 3 you will still need to use the right stick for quick turns. Visually Crysis 1 looks like it's on a lower generation machine than the switch port of crysis 3.

I found jumping into a jeep and using the infinite ammo of the mounted gun the only way to reliably clear an area. Still I'm having some fun with the game.

The slow default walking speed grates a bit. It's either walk at a glacial pace, or run ahead as fast as a car.

Oh one thing that I was wondering about was the outdoor large environments. I've seen videos of this or Far Cry games and the reviews always say you can approach these encounters the way you want. But in reality it's usually one shack in the forest and your only real choice is which side you're going to flank them on.

I prefer the urban set environments of Crysis 2. Proper level design.

Crysis 1 remastered is getting better. The textures are low resolution but the art and lighting shine through. And I've never played a game with this much dense vegetation.

Controls are good, the sequels allow you to set separate sensitivity for the Ads but it's still good here.

Well, last night I managed to learn the adagio after all, so I have, in fact, played through the whole piece before the end of November!

I'm not entirely sure why I picked this up last night, but now I'm proud owner of the Ultimate Final Fantasy XIV Online Cookbook.

The recipes are interesting, though nothing too remarkable after I thumb through it. I'm surprisingly, a good chunk of it has an Asian flair to it. I will have to try it out soon though. There is a recipe for lemon waffles that looks nice.

And another news, there's also a tomb raider cookbook. I'm not familiar enough to know if there's actually any cooking going on in the current games, but that one seems like a bit of a stretch.

That article about GoG bleeding money is concerning. I might need to double check what games I have from them and get them to a hard drive soon.

the only cooking I can remember is her killing and eating a deer. Deer meat is good, or so I've been told.

I've had venison twice in my life. The first time was it a very high-end wild game restaurant in texas, and it was pretty damn amazing.

The second time my neighbor brought over some venison steaks that he had marinated. The meat was tougher than old bubble gum. Seriously it was awful. It was like chewing on an old leather shoe. Later after I had finished, my neighbor explained that it was actually roadkill from a deer that one of his friends on the force hit with his cop car. So if I needed another reason to hate cops, there we go.

actually, a lot of them can't. That's sort of our country's biggest problem in a nutshell.

Anyway, sadly I also think Edge left due to politics. The final post he made after a very long absence, at the very least spelled out his beliefs. Weird last note to go out on if nothing else.

Woah didn't see all that, and also woooof geesh. Anyway... I got Returnal! Only did one run and the game throws so much at you. Anyone here play it?
