For me, I'd love to see SOTC in HD. The original game was amazing but had a lot of framerate problems and slow downs. Not the game's fault but the PS2's limitations.

I'd love to play that game without any of these problems with cleaner up-scaled graphics.

I couldn't even finish SOTC. Goiod game, but I found its horribly camera more aggravating than its spooky framerate.

So what do you guys think of the game gambling that Virgin wants to start. The contest stuff sounds great, I think that is way better than waiting around for some big gaming league event to come around and having to enter against freaks that enter tournaments professionally. But how do you prevent those kinds of people from dominating these tournaments.

Whats crazier is the gambling side, using their service you can set wagers on online matches. Like say you want to play some guy on Madden and put $10 on the game. On one hand I think it's a brilliant idea, no different than doing a pickup game of basketball in the streets for some cash or hustling guys at pool, or any other kind of friendly wager. But again I think there will be some people that will make a killing with this. In gaming there are a very small percentage of people that are flat out better than everyone else, they would dominate. I assume there must be some ranking or something so you know who you are dealing with. Also I doubt the average person will even try, it may become an all pro gambling site. Then there are the problems that come with online gaming, disconnections with no proof if it was on purpose or not, people claiming there was cheating, etc. They may need to have games that same replays, kind of like Halo 3.

Good luck to them, I kind of like the idea. There aren't really any games for me. Until I can find a way to make money from single player games I am out of luck. Even then I will never master games like speed runners do and all that. Like I said there is a huge divide between a normal gamer and crazy psycho super speedrunning ultra master rank in CoD game kind of gamer.

(Oh and I love how one of the prizes maybe a trip into outer space with Virgin's spaceship. Umm, yeah if it ain't NASA I ain't going. Even NASA isn't safe. I'm good here on Earth for now.)

^Sad thing is, I think Virgin has a better safety record than NASA.

I'm all for gambling on as much stuff as you can (I don;t gamble myself). Gambling on competitive gaming is a-okay with me.  0-60 on fixed games though.

Gave up on Blinx the Time Sweeper 2 (it's a platformer, I suck at them).  From what I can tell it was a top shelf game.

Gave up on Blitz the League.  It was also pretty good, but I went 0-5 in career mode then they told me I'd have to win a single game to advance.  Of course I could not, so they kicked me back to the start.  I don't know anything about the NFL, but again, from what I can tell it was a good game.  I was having fun until they kicked me out.

You can't have people gamble on the outcome of a match, the gambling has to be done only by the two players.

I'd prefer they just make the PS3 backward compatible, but I suppose the HD remakes aren't a horrible idea so long as they keep the pricing at a reduced level like Nintendo did with the New Play Control games.  Then again the only games I'd want are the KH games and maybe a new copy of Dragon Quest VIII since apparently goblins stole my copy at some point.

Yes I do. Well, I have one at any rate. He turned 4 years old a couple weeks ago.

Heh. I've been there twice, so I hear you. As a matter of fact, I blame goblins as well for my lost Rhythm Heaven DS cart. LOL

Haven't we gone over this before?  I thought it was established that Robio had Goblins in his house.

I have a goblin in my house too. It steals my socks and underwear, and chews them to bits. My local animal shelter lied to me. They said it was a cat, but I know better. It's definitely a goblin! Argh!

I'm all for gambling on as much stuff as you can (I don;t gamble myself). Gambling on competitive gaming is a-okay with me.  0-60 on fixed games though.

You can't have people gamble on the outcome of a match, the gambling has to be done only by the two players.

Ah.  Well in that case. Awesome.  I can see a lot of people being suckered - -but that's fine, dumb people deserve to be grifted.

Beat Chicago Enforcer.  This is supposed to have been a legendarily poor game.  I'd give a 4.5.  I would have given it a 5 if it was longer -- I don't know what that says about me.

There was no music in the game, which was odd.  It was just a boring boring FPS.  Bad textures.  But I liked the old-school AI.  It was nice being able to fire a short, retreat and then camp and make a pile of bodies.  It was supposed to be historically accurate (set in Al Capone's Chicago) but there were typewriters in it from the late 20th century and a modern skyline on the front cover (I don;t think it is even Chicago).

Not as bad as it's reviwed, but certainly not good.

Now onto Bethesda's Call of the Cthulhu.

+_+_+_+_+_+

From the Kinect FPS story from yesterday:
""Core gamers will say to me, 'What is Kinect going to do for me?' Well, you probably have
a girlfriend, No
or you have a sister, Already a gamer
or a brother,  Already games
or a niece, No
or a nephew, Already games
or a wife,  Already games
or a mom, The less I have to do with her the better
or an aunt No
who you've probably wanted to have experience, you know, the kind of stuff that you enjoy."" Um the kind of stuff I enjoy involves sitting on a couch with a controller.

 That's it.

If my nephew goes near my collection, I'm strapping boxing gloves over his thieving mitts.

Warren Spector talks 3DS: Part 2 - 3D effect is 'perfect', 3D is not a fad, Nintendo deserves to sell 'gazillions'

Warren Spector:
Nintendo got 3D right – righter than anyone else. Ever. By far. Think about the 3DS – just the basics:

No glasses required!

No image degradation or color saturation loss compared with 2D displays!
Parallax control so viewers can adjust the images so the 3D effect is perfect for them, not for some average person with an average distance of 2.5 inches between his/her eyes.
But that’s just based on the basics, as I said. Wait, there’s more. I was backstage at the Nintendo Press Conference on Tuesday, June 15th, and as each new 3DS feature was described, my jaw got closer and closer to the ground. It’s a game machine… it’s 3D… it has a gyroscope and accelerometer built in… It has Wi-Fi connectivity and shares data with other 3DS’s in the background… It has a 3D CAMERA!… and it PLAYS 3D MOVIES WITHOUT GLASSES!… I swear if they’d said it was a phone, too, I would have dashed back onto the stage and snatched the prototype and run like the wind! I half expected to hear it would tuck me in at night!

When I got my hands on the 3DS at the show, I was blown away again. The feature set sounds good but the proof is in the pudding – in the product. And Nintendo’s got some mighty tasty stuff coming. Pilot Wings – incredible. Nintendogs – even cuter than before and more engaging. Kingdom Hearts, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid – gorgeous. Kid Icarus is coming back plus there’s a Mario Kart, plus a new Zelda(!!!!!)! Not a bad set of games to brag about as you’re launching a new piece of hardware. And there was a tech demo, shooting game that was probably my favorite thing of all. The movie trailers were outrageous – best 3D visuals I’ve seen. Tangled looked great and How to Train Your Dragon was a revelation. Both were sharp, clear, convincing. Every title – movie or game – was a hardware-selling brand, each one looked cool and each was genuinely enhanced in some way by the 3D effect.

The 3D effect is basically perfect. I mean PERFECT. And the games and movie trailers shown on 3DS were stunning, enhanced and flat-out cooler than they could possibly have been in 2D. I was on the fence about 3D when I entered the Nintendo booth. By the time I left, I was floored.

I was completely wrong about 3D. Not a fad. Not going away. Here for good – and that’s a good thing. Nintendo deserves to sell a gazillion of these things. And I want the first one off the line!

As a consumer, I’m in. Sign me up. Price no object (or not much of one). As a game developer, well, sign me up for that, too. How do you design a game that really exploits stereoscopic 3D? Beats me… How do we take advantage of a 3D camera built into a gaming device? No idea… How do we integrate gyroscopes and accelerometers into control schemes? Got some ideas but nothing solid… I mean, how could anyone NOT want to play with this tech?

I’ve been hoping something like this would come along since Origin and Looking Glass supported VR headsets in Wings of Glory and System Shock back in the mid-’90s, but I never actually believed it would happen. Well, it’s happened. The Nintendo 3DS changed everything for me.

Please, please, let it be the success it deserves to be. And all you TV manufacturers out there (or Sharp at least), get with the program and let me buy a TV that’s as cool as Nintendo’s little game machine. I know there are issues with view angles on parallax barrier technology, but come on, get cracking, solve the problems and let me give you a bunch of money so I can have my 3D, okay?

I should stop. I know it. But the 3DS is – seriously – the coolest hardware I’ve ever seen at E3… It’s nothing short of magical, both in the effect the stereoscopic stuff had on me and in the way the tech works. Not that I really understand how it works – not yet anyway! The 3DS was – dare I say it? – almost Disney-like in the magical feeling it evoked in me and I suspect you’ll have a similar reaction when you get your hands on it. And note that I said “when,” not “if.” That was no accident. Trust me – you’re gonna want and you’re gonna get a Nintendo 3DS.

Nice score for Singularity. I was interested in this game. I believe early purchasers get a free copy of Red Faction so I'll probably pick this up asap.
