For "achievements" if you're going to call them that, the interest from my end has nothing to do with completism, but challenge.  It's somewhat like a bonus level.  I think having an integrated system is detrimental to this approach.

 I'm not an achievement whore (as is evidenced from my gamer score xbl = claude). But there has to be something about numbers and high scores and leader boards that is wired into people who like games.  It's been a part of gaming the original arcade games.  I don't understand it, but there is something to it.
