NES Remix 2 is basically a rom hack arcade style game of NES titles. It is just like the first game but this time you get to play many of the greatest NES games of all time. If the idea of paying to play arcade style challenges of old games is not for you then move along, there is nothing for you here. If you do love NES games and enjoy time trial challenges, this game is for you.

Just like the first game the package is split into challenges of each individual game and a section of remix levels where you get to play altered versions of the NES games like Link in SMB2, and some crazy visual effects. As you play and gain stars for how well you complete the challenges you unlock more levels and games to try out. The trials are fast, giving the entire game a wario ware like feel.

The reason Remix 2 is better than the first is cause the games within are way better. Gone are all the arcade like games and trash like Clu Clu Land. Now you get to play SMB2, SMB3, Zelda 2, Metroid, Kirby's Adventure, Punch-Out, Ice Hockey, and so on. Because most of these games have a story the challenges take you through a sort of tour of the game. The first few explain explore the gameplay mechanics. The final trials usually put you in the hardest levels or fighting the games bosses. The final level is almost always a battle versus the final boss allowing you to see the ending to all these games. It's not just fun playing these challenges for times, it is fun as a sort of tour of NES gaming as well.

The remix levels are very cool as well offering totally unique challenges that range from simply but interesting to very awesome and hard. Sadly the difficulty has been toned down a ton in this game, it is extremely easy to get the rainbow time for each trial. There are also fewer games and levels over all. There are two new modes that supposedly are there to make up for it, you get Super Luigi Bros. which is SMB with Luigi and mirrored. Also there is the championship challenge which is essentially a world wide Dr. Mario score competition which is a blast to compete in. The addition of video replay of miiverse posts allows anyone to see how to get the best times, a great addition.

It took me well over ten hours to 100% the entire game and unlike the first remix there were no games that felt painful to finish. So while this game is easier it is far more fun to play. This is such an odd new franchise but I love it. Please give me third party NES Remix and SNES Remix.
