PlayStation 47.90
Overall 7.90
I cant believe this, I wrote this huge review detailing why this game is great and I lost it all. I'm not rewriting it, I'm so pissed. This is the best QD story because the scope is grand, the world feels so detailed and it covers the macro events of a an android revolution with the smaller personal events of androids learning to become alive.

Best character is Conner, worst character is Marcus because his actor is not believable as a MLK level character. The choices are by far the best of any QD game. You can influence each main character and make them assholes or kind gentle heroes. The endings can be dramatically different. The flowchart is an excellent addition that keeps track of every choice possible and shows how ambitious the choice tree is. But changing choices is a chore and mess because you have to play every chapter in order to lock in choices.

My biggest issue with the game is that the level of interactivity is going down. This whole semi QTE style gameplay is getting old and almost means nothing. Beyond I felt was a step in the right direction with good interactivity as spirit that can manipulate objects and gameplay sequences that were not just QTEs. Detroit is more like Heavy Rain, QTE fest all over. Its time to try something new.

Graphics are insane. Level of detail is movie set quality. The music is great and fits the themes well. I cant say it is voice acting anymore, these are full body performances and almost all the actors do an excellent job, especially Conner's.

Detroit is worth playing if you enjoy sci fi stories involving androids or just like games where you can influence the story. If you are a fan of QD this is the best game they have made. The story is rather cliche and not breaking any new ground but for video game storytelling its super well done and the world building is TV show level great.

They don't really make traditional "games" though....more like interactive movies a la Telltale games, just much more on the ultra realistic side. So yeah, that score is pretty good for this kind of thing IMO.

I only played Sam and Max by Telltale. I felt let down.

I agree with your last paragraph entirely. The writing is 2-dimensional, but that's not why I turn up for a David Cage game (or any game for that matter). It's the best David Cage game to date (as a complete package).

Our scores match, I gave it an 8 (I only score to half-point, and it was closer to an 8 than a 7).
